China made an unambiguous statement of support for Pakistan following renewed tensions between it and India, after recent border incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) reignited concerns over regional stability in South Asia. This declaration came following recent border flare-ups along the LoC.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry in Beijing, confirmed its longstanding support of Pakistan as an “iron brother” and strategic ally. According to Lin, China and Pakistan remain “all-weather strategic partners”, with China always standing behind Pakistan in upholding their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity – this position won’t change under any circumstance.
China’s statement came amid increasing military posturing between Pakistan and India following an exchange of fire earlier this week that resulted in casualties on both sides. Though both New Delhi and Islamabad have levelled accusations over violations to ceasefire agreements, China’s declaration clearly shows its support of Pakistan amid such tensions.
China Urges Restraint But Backs Pakistan While strongly supporting Pakistan’s sovereign rights, China also stressed the need for restraint on both sides and urged both to use peaceful dialogue as a way of resolving their differences through diplomatic channels in order to maintain regional peace. Lin said they encourage both parties “to use diplomatic channels to resolve differences and maintain regional peace”.
Observers observe that China’s diplomatic approach remains carefully balanced – offering strong support to Pakistan while not criticizing India directly. Analysts consider the timing of China’s statement significant as it follows Pakistan’s strong protest against any possible Indian aggression along disputed borders in Kashmir region.
Pakistan Welcomes China’s Support
Islamabad welcomed China’s remarks warmly. The Foreign Office released a statement thanking them for their “consistent and principled stance” towards Pakistani sovereignty and providing such support in times of external threats to stability in regional regions. We deeply thank our iron brother China for standing with Pakistan against external challenges; his friendship is at the cornerstone of regional peace,” stated this document.
Pakistani analysts noted that China’s vocal support strengthens Islamabad at a time of tension between itself and India. According to Dr. Huma Baqai, an expert based in Karachi on foreign policy matters. China’s backing not only reassures Islamabad but also sends out a signal in the region that Islamabad isn’t alone.
India Reacts Cautiously
In response to China’s statement regarding Kashmir, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a cautious reply by stressing its internal jurisdiction over this region and expects other nations to respect India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India. “We resolutely oppose any third-party interference into matters concerning our internal affairs,” according to India.
New Delhi has expressed growing unease over China’s increased strategic and economic engagement with Pakistan, particularly through projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which India claims passes through disputed territory.
Reaffirmation of Ties
China and Pakistan recently confirmed their strategic depth through the renewal of ties. Dubbed as an alliance “higher than Himalayas and deeper than oceans”, their bilateral relationship has continued to evolve and strengthen from defense cooperation through energy infrastructure development to regional diplomacy.
As tensions in South Asia mount, China’s comments serve as a stark reminder of shifting regional alliances and intricate geopolitics which shape its future.
With both nations reiterating their commitments to mutual trust and cooperation, Pakistan and China once more demonstrate the power of their partnership in regional affairs.
