Jerusalem — Israel announced on Saturday that its military would dramatically expand operations throughout most areas of Gaza Strip due to ongoing security threats and dismantling militant infrastructure.

According to an IDF statement released earlier today, officials revealed that the next stage of its offensive would focus on multiple zones across Gaza where armed groups are suspected to be operating following increased rocket fire and cross-border attacks in recent weeks.

“The IDF stands ready to operate wherever necessary to defend Israeli citizens,” read the statement, and will continue its operations until all terrorist threats have been neutralized and stability has been restored.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel’s military campaign is necessary for long-term security, warning any attempts at obstruction would be met with “decisive force.”

Netanyahu stated during his televised address, that Israel is at an important juncture and cannot allow Gaza to remain a base for terror attacks.

The move has drawn international concern, with humanitarian organizations calling for restraint and warning of its potential to worsen a humanitarian crisis already existing in densely populated territory.

The United Nations issued an immediate ceasefire and aid agency access for civilians impacted by fighting. A UN spokesperson stated: “Civilians must be protected, while humanitarian aid should not be hindered”.

As the situation deteriorates, regional leaders and global powers continue to call for renewed dialogue; yet hopes of an immediate diplomatic resolution remain uncertain.
