Today, the United States launched a massive airstrike campaign across multiple regions in Yemen that they claimed targeted Houthi military sites. Initial reports indicate at least 29 airstrikes took place within hours, marking one of the largest single-day operations by US forces this year in Yemen.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions and witnessing plumes of smoke rising from key targets; Houthi-controlled media accused the U.S. government of engaging in “aggression” against sovereign Yemeni territory.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed its operation, saying the strikes were targeted towards weakening Houthis ability to launch further attacks against international shipping lanes and regional allies.

“These strikes were conducted both independently and with international partners to maintain maritime navigation safety in the Red Sea and surrounding waters,” according to CENTCOM.

Houthi rebels who control much of northern Yemen have yet to provide an official casualty report but claim that several civilians were injured and infrastructure damaged during raids conducted by them.

The renewed military action comes amid increasing tensions in the Red Sea, where Houthi-aligned forces have been accused of targeting commercial vessels as an indirect response to US and Israeli involvement in regional conflicts. The United States and its allies have issued repeated warnings to this group against any further provocations; doing so protects global trade routes and regional stability.

Analysts fear that today’s escalation may spark an even wider conflict unless diplomatic efforts are swiftly renewed. Furthermore, humanitarian agencies expressed grave concern that continued military operations might exacerbate Yemen’s already dire humanitarian situation; after years of warfare millions are in desperate need of aid.

As of yet, neither Yemen’s exiled government nor the UN have issued any official responses in regards to these events.

Situation remains fluid, with further updates expected as new details surface in the coming hours.
